Long-Term Disability

Long-term disability (LTD) insurance is a valuable plan that Saint Louis University provides to eligible full-time SLU faculty and staff.

Saint Louis University provides long-term disability insurance through The Hartford to protect your finances when your disability continues beyond the period covered by your sick/leave time. Available long-term disability benefits equal 60% of base earnings up to $15,000 per month. Saint Louis University secured a reduced rate through The Hartford for 2025.

Coverage is automatic after one year of full-time service for employees not covered by a collective bargaining agreement unless coverage has been waived. The University pays the entire cost of coverage up to a base annual earnings of $36,000. For example, if your annual earnings are $50,000, SLU covers the LTD premium for the first $36,000. Your LTD premiums would be based on the remaining $14,000 of earnings. Your monthly contribution would be $3.27 for LTD coverage.

The coverage will continue all features of the current coverage, including distinctive features such as possible benefits to disabled employees and continuation of retirement contributions to those employees who participate at this time.
